Welcome to Our Website
Shane Petersen and Marie Nguyen are the owners of Suisun Valley Farm in Fairfield, CA, where we breed Swallow-bellied Mangalitsa pigs and live on a 45 acre farm.
We hope you will learn a few things about the Mangalitsa pig breed, what makes them special, how we raise them, and where they can be used for curing and cooking.
The Mangalitsa pig is unusual as it grows a hairy 'fleece', akin to that of a sheep. Originally bred in Hungary, they are a lard-type breed developed in the 1840's. In addtion to their curly hair, Mangalitsas also have a very thick layer of fat, both both of which help them survive the harsh winters.
Mangalitsa piglets, which are born with striped hair like boars, will sport a long curly coat in just a few months. See our Photo Gallery for pictures.
